Abuja –  The Nigeria Police on Friday insisted that it acted professionally to forestall mayhem on Thursday’s commotion at the National Assembly. The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, made this known when he briefed newsmen on police role on Thursday’s commotion at the National Assembly. Jonathan ’ll win without rigging, Presidency replies Amaechi

The Presidency yesterday reacted to a statements credited to Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi on the 2015 general elections. Speaking on Wednesday at Eagle Square, Abuja venue of the Salvation Rally organised by the  All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Amaechi warned against any attempt to rig the forthcoming elections as he vowed that the main opposition party would carry out “civil disobedience” as well as form a “parallel government.” But reacting yesterday, Dr Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, faulted Amaechi, that Jonathan would win the next election without rigging. Okupe recalled that previous polls held under the present administration had been free and fair. “Since Nigerians know for a fact that the Rivers State Governor has not been living in the moon, but has been in this country since the commencement of our present democratic experiment, they are definitely at pains to understand why he has failed to acknowle...

WorldStage Newsonline—Nigeria’s House of Representatives has rejected the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to extend emergency rule in the states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa for the fourth time, but rather urged the President to rely on the Section 8 of the Armed Forces Act which empowers him to deploy the military to troubled spots of the country. Zakari Mohammed, Chairman of the House committee on Media and Public Affairs who briefed the media after the plenary said, "Based on Hon. "You remember emergency rule started in May, 2013 and therefore, we have done three extensions. If we had extended today, that would have been...

Automatic tickets for failed senators ‘ll cause PDP failure   CHIEF Joe Edionwele is the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretary (South- South). A House of Representatives aspirant on the party’s ticket for Esan-West/Esan Central/Igueben Federal Constituency, Edionwele in this interview challenges proposals for automatic ticket for members of the National Assembly saying it is only the will of the people that will prevail. Excerpts: O n the decision of the President to give automatic tickets to Senators It will not stand the test of time because it is the will of the people that will prevail, it is the electorate that will decide who will go back to the National Assembly. And it is going to be based on your performance and not by arrangement with anybody. And of course, if the President was going to do such a thing, he would have done it in consultations with the elders of the party in their various constituencies. But as long as that did not take plac...

DELTA 2015: Anioma should negotiate with Urhobo – Newton Jibunoh

FOUNDER of Fight Against Desert Encroachment, FADE, Chief Newton Jibunoh, is one of the respected leaders of Delta State. He hails from Delta North senatorial district, whose people (Anioma) want to produce the next governor of the state, but the Delta Central senatorial district (Urhobo) through the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, stated, last week,   that it would not happen. Chief Jibunoh in this interview he knew about the fears of the Urhobo people and suggested a way out. Excerpts: A re  you worried by the number of aspirants from Delta North in the governorship race? When I saw the number of Anioma aspirants, 15 or more or them, I was a bit disturbed, but on second thought, I think it is good because we have potential governors, who believe in themselves, which goes to show that we have been politically emancipated. I do not think that a lot of people can boast of that number from one senatorial district. The number does not bother me anymore. The Urhobo Prog...

DELTA SOUTH 2015: The craze to find solace at the upper chambers of the National Assembly.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is also good to go. Like his other colleagues, the destination point in 2015 is the Senate to represent Delta South Senat orial district. However, the very popular incumbent Senator James Manager seems poised to give Uduaghan a run for his money and has advised the governor to look elsewhere. So heated up is the political disagreement between Manager and his governor that Uduaghan’s grace like others will be the fact that he has the party structure in his kitty – a verile and potent weapon that is easily the most determinant factor in determining candidates’ emergence.
