Urgent Appeal Regarding the Marginalization of the Isoko People

Open Letter to the President and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Attention: His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Members of the Senate.

Mr. President, members of the Senate, We, the Isoko people, urgently draw your attention to the severe and long-standing marginalization we have endured for decades within the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Despite our significant contributions to this nation, particularly in the oil and gas sector, our people remain largely excluded from political appointments, security roles, and economic opportunities.

It is a well-known fact that the Isoko land produces a substantial portion of Nigeria's crude oil, accounting for approximately 75% of onshore production. Yet, when it comes to crucial economic benefits such as pipeline surveillance contracts, our community has been consistently overlooked. We have observed the allocation of such contracts to other groups, including the Ijaw and Itsekiri people, while our repeated appeals and written complaints have gone unanswered. This blatant disregard for our welfare is a clear act of marginalization.

Now that the political landscape has shifted, with many aligning with the ruling party, we believe this is an opportune moment for unity and equitable distribution of resources. Mr. President, we implore you to personally intervene and address this injustice. We believe in the principle of equality for all Nigerians, and the Isoko people deserve to be treated with the same fairness and respect extended to other communities.

We stand firmly in support of your administration and are committed to its success. We are confident that addressing the grievances of the Isoko nation will foster greater peace, stability, and development within our region and the country as a whole.

We also call upon our esteemed representatives in both the Red and Green Chambers to acknowledge their mandate to serve the Isoko people. It is your duty to champion our cause and ensure that our concerns are not only heard but acted upon decisively. We voted for you to represent our interests, and we should not be forced to resort to agitation to secure our rightful place in this nation.

Mr. President, we believe you are a competent leader and a problem-solver. This is our very first request to your administration, and we trust that you will do the needful for the Isoko people.

Sincerely,

Stakeholders of isoko nation
